My name is Bijou. I am a Standard Gray Chinchilla who is 10 months old. My favorite thing to do is chew. I believe it is my mission to munch on everything in the World. I have the softest, smoothest fur & coat of any animal I have met. My eyes are deep, dark almost black brown with a unique blue membrane lining. I have two pink puffy paws in front & two long, lean string-bean hind legs. They are fabulous for grabbing items to eat & launching me away from things trying to take my food away!
Even though I am open to eating just about anything my favorite treats are Apple Wood & Rosehips. I love to gnaw the bark off my wooden toys, then I will run around with the left overs in my mouth until my parents give me more. I also love to play with walnut shells, willow & lava rock. Powdered lava is what I use for my bath time, but sometimes I sneak away & eat a little bit while the parents are oblivious.
I am quite sociable. I love to make peeps, hoots, honks & all sorts of noises. Every night I chitter out THREE times to signal it is time for mommy & daddy to pick me up. Sometimes I just want a hug, other times a toy or food, but most of the time when I squeak it is because I want to run around outside my spacious cage. There is just not enough stuff inside there to get in trouble with! When I am done with play time I lay down by my parents or I hop into my litter dish. I will hoot at them until they pick me & my dish up. Once we have lift off it is back to my cage to be fed & watered & showered with more kisses before the door is closed!
After I watch my parents fall asleep & the sun begins to rise I hunker down into my little ceramic hut or timothy hay cave to rest. Once the day begins it is time for chinchillas to finally rest. It is tough to be a chinchilla in today’s world, taking care of my parents & finding new things to eat… but someone adorable like me has to do it!
The biggest difference you can make in an pet’s life is taking them in and nurturing them. An abandoned animal’s greatest chance for survival is adoption into a loving home.
